Today you brushed your teeth, took a shower, washed your hands, made coffee, washed dishes, and completed countless other tasks that involved water, and probably never once questioned the quality and cleanliness of your water. It seems that access to a reliable source of clean water is something that is not truly appreciated until it is taken away.
Truth is, there are hundreds of microbiological pathogens that can be transmitted via a water source and sicken the recipient. Imagine having to boil your water before drinking, not just depressing the dispenser on your refrigerator door. The issue is not as far from home as you think, there are people living without access to clean water in our own country.

This is not the only solution, but it is surely an innovative one. 884,000,000 is a staggering number and what is more devastating to me is that this is not news. Your local news program is more likely to cover the Kardashians than real issues like this. As consumers (the news channel you watch counts as consuming, too) we should demand more of our country to not only publicize this issue, but to work for a global solution.
